An Important Note to HEST Applicants

The Holocaust Educators’ Study Tour is an intensive, educational experience. Due to the nature of the topic and the history of some of the sites visited, the program can at times be physically and emotionally demanding.

Please note that the program involves several long bus rides to reach certain destinations and that walking for extended periods of time is a daily mode of transportation. By applying, you are indicating that you are prepared for the rigorous physical and emotional demands that can accompany this program. You agree to take reasonable and responsible actions to be best equipped for the program's schedule and activities.

We reserve the right to request a physician’s letter stating that you are fit to participate in the Holocaust Educators’ Study Tour.

Please indicate if there is any medical information you are comfortable sharing that might affect your full participation. For example, if you are claustrophobic or have a fear of heights, it is helpful for the program leaders to know in advance of visiting certain sites.

A note about eligibility: preference is given to educators in formal and nonformal roles across Canada. Teacher candidates are welcome to apply. Preference given to educators in public school boards. Educators must be active in the education sector and with a minimum of 5 years remaining before they plan to leave the field or retire.

The food options on the program will be limited. Regrettably, we cannot guarantee special diet accommodation. However, we will work with the program parameters to best work within participant needs.

As part of the pre-program preparations, all successful applicants are expected to take part in 3 webinars that will take place in May and June, and attend the pre-flight orientation session in Toronto on July 5.

Announcement of participants will be made in April 2016. Participant fees are to be paid in full by Wednesday, June 1, 2016, unless a special arrangement has been made. Applications can be emailed to Mathias Vogt at mvogt@ujafed.org or sent by post to:
